What Is Taekwon-Do?
Taekwon-Do is the scientific use of the body in self defence – a body that has gained the ultimate use of its facilities through intensive, physical and mental training.
Originating in Korea, Taekwon-Do was developed in its present form in the last century and inaugurated in 1955 by its founder and head of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), Major General Choi Hong Hi.
Translated from Korean, ‘Tae’ means to jump , Kick or smash with the foot; ‘Kwon’ means to punch or destroy with the hand or fist; and ‘Do’ means art way or method. Therefore Taekwon-Do literally means ‘the art of hand and foot’.
Taekwon-Do for Children
Martial Arts can be used to supplement children's education and development.
Studies have shown the Taekwon-Do gives children an increased sense of responsibility and self esteem, as well as providing a safe environment for them to release their energy and learn self discipline.
Today, Taekwon-Do has many followers throughout the world. It is considered to be one of the most effective forms of self defence and is also a highly effective way of providing mental and physical self development.
At the Alloa School of Taekwon-Do (PUMA) our professional and highly experienced instructors look to bring the best out in every student. Classes comprises of stretching, patterns, self defence, pad work, high kicking drills and sparring. Classes are interlaced with games to maximises the kids enjoyment and we have the latest martial arts equipment available for our members use.

Social Skills
Children that study Taekwon-do at our school will gain increases social skills as classes, gradings and tournaments all require your child to interact with fellow students, officials and instructors.
Confidence
By far the most advantageous skill you child will develop will be confidence, students are rewarded for their training and dedication with reward stars and the official ITF grading structure. This teaches children that working hard is the only way to achieve what they desire. Tournaments and class awards also allow children to develop the will to set goals for themselves and strive to reach them. Children will also have the added confidence of knowing how to effectively defend themselves against bullies.
